James Norton : Liz's Heart
by James Norton
I was having a conversation one day at a local restaurant with the hostess. She and I were casual friends and I was grabbing a soda before dinner. As we talked, she picked up a pen and started drawing on the napkin in front of her. We talked about relationships and as the conversation progressed, she kept drawing hearts, over and over, pressing harder as she drew. When her story reached its crescendo, she pulled her hand away. The hearts had grown larger and the paper tore away. The final heart was the largest and was an empty hole in the napkin........that napkin became the basis for this piece......
